Gender discrimination and inequality faced by women in the professional fields<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For centuries, women have been facing numerous challenges due to stereotypes set by society, especially at workplaces and professional fields, where the proverb glass ceiling is relatively common. Let’s have a look at the challenges that women face on a day to day basis at their workplace:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Women are underrepresented at every stage, from entry-level positions to CEOs while men get innumerable opportunities and promotions to suit themselves for managerial positions. According to research by Paysacle (2018), the median pay scale for women is around 22 percent less than the median salary for men. In India, we all are still struggling with the quote “equal pay for equal work.” The wage that male workers get is comparatively greater than a female worker in almost all sectors. Apart from this, there are numerous instances of women facing harassment including verbal, non-verbal, sexual, and physical harassment at their workplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Various movements came into existence to curb these evils but the results are just not enough. It’s time we end tainted masculinity and misogyny and make people understand the importance of gender equality. We must strive to reduce gender gaps and achieve personal, social, economic, and political equality. It’s time to stop overlooking women in the professional fields and to give them an equal opportunity at every stage. To fix this situation, organizations need to hire more women for managerial positions. Hiring a female employee for a supervisory position can help in the acceptance, promotion, and growth of more women that will eventually contribute to increasing the number even higher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since organizations have a comparatively higher number of male employees, it looks like a boys’ club where they engage in locker room discussion. It exists when women don’t get a chance to present their opinions and viewpoints in decision-making. To change this scenario, organizations need to make changes to promote gender equality. Steps like women groups at workplaces or entry-level employees having a female mentor are some of the ways for women to learn and grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a huge need to make a sustainable change at workplaces. Supporting women employees from entry-level positions to leadership roles and fighting the problem at its root can help a lot.
