Now, we all have heard these strange comparisons between copy and inspired, but what do these terms mean? Let’s understand this by simply putting forward an example. It is easy for you to copy off someone in an exam, but getting inspired by the way they study is way more difficult. This is how it goes. There is a very thin line between the two terms, but that fine line makes a lot of difference. Let’s understand this in-depth.

To start, copy means doing exactly something that has already been done, for example, copying someone’s homework. On the other hand, getting inspired means looking up to someone, but not wanting to be them. For example, you can be inspired by your mother, but you are your person, you just aspire to have the qualities that she possesses. There is nothing wrong with copying, but it does come across as being lazy with no originality. Getting inspired by someone, but still having a sense of individuality is way more impressive and beautiful.

We all had those moments in our lives when we tried to copy our favorite movie stars. Be it dressing up like Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, or saying “PHAT” as Poo said in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, we have tried it all. It was fun when we were little, but now as grown-up adults, we should create our personality and charm that is unique and different from everyone else. Copying has no originality whatsoever, so why be like someone else, when you can be you.

It is not just about personality, but it also applies to our professional and work lives. Innovation is the key, and copying completely contradicts that. Copying is almost like stealing, theft of someone’s hard work, someone’s thoughts as well as someone’s actions. Think about it, is it fair? We all are blessed with unique talents and skills, so why not put them to use. If you like someone’s work, get inspired by them but don’t be them. There is a huge difference between, “Wanting to be like someone” and “Wanting to be someone”, and it would be much better if you fit in the first category.

Copying will not just make you lazy, but will also harm your self-respect and self-worth in the long run. Getting inspired by someone will help you reach your goal faster, as now you have a guide that will help you reach the destination. Copying is surely the easier route for a destination, but, inspiration will make you enjoy the journey more and will give you memories to cherish. So, you can take your pick!

It is easy to “copy someone” but “getting inspired” is way tougher.
