Advertisements that won awards as well as hearts

Advertisements are humorous, engaging, and all things emotional. People relate to them and they leave a mark on many minds. Advertisements tend to stick with people for a long time. They are the best means of promotion and help brands to increase their sales. The sole purpose of advertising is to create a long-lasting impression in the minds of people. If the recall value of an advertisement is high, it will surely create an impact. Brands work very hard to create the best advertisements but only some have a huge impact.

Here are some of the award-winning advertisements that struck the right chord with the audience:

McDonald’s- The Showdown:

This advertisement showed Larry Bird and Michael Jordan playing shoot-till-you-miss basketball, just to get their hands on the Big Mac. The game starts with easy shots and gets difficult as they progress. In the end, both the players are shown shooting the ball from the top of a building. The fun part is that none of them miss a shot! The ad sent out the message that these are the heights that even sports stars are willing to go to to get a McDonald’s burger.

Awards won: Bronze medal at the 1993 Cannes Lions.

Coca Cola- Mean Joe Greene:

In this advertisement, the American football giant Joe Greene was shown disappointed and bummed after a game. A little fan comes up to him, but Greene isn’t interested until the kid offers to share a Coca Cola with him. After this, the fan walks away. Greene yells at the kid and throws his jersey towards him. The ad touched people’s hearts and created a lasting impression.

Awards won: Won at the 1979 CILO awards.

Budweiser- Frogs:

This advertisement was extremely humorous. It showed one frog saying “Bud” and in response, the other two frogs replied with “Weis” and “Er.” The first frog is seen jumping around until he finds the other two. The three then complete the word “Budweiser.” This advertisement made perfect use of humor and incorporated the correct theme as well.

Awards won: Winner of the CILO awards and the Silver Lion Awards at Cannes in 1995.

Sony Bravia- Balls:

The hard work behind this advertisement was clearly seen as 250,000 brightly colored bouncy balls were released at the top of Filbert and Leavenworth street in San Francisco. The advertisement was filmed from different angles. The balls were used to symbolize that Sony televisions have the best color.

Awards won: Won a Golden Lion at the Cannes Lion International Advertising Festival and the Grand Prix at the Midsummer Awards in 2006.
