Are celebrity social media endorsements a thing of past

Technology is evolving every minute and the world is coming closer on social media. Celebrities are breaking the boundaries of privacy on social media by posting everyday routines openly. They are sharing bits of their routine to let their fans enjoy some insider insight into their lives. Their popular image and the excitement in minds of people have given them a huge follower base on social media. These huge numbers seem lucrative for brands and they feel the need to target that niche, leading to the rise of celebrity social media endorsements.

Brands tie-up with these social media biggies for different collaborations. These could be either short-term (per post basis) or long-term (monthly, yearly, etc.) These paid posts by celebrities create brand awareness and curiosity amongst followers to try out the product their favorite celebrity is endorsing. Celebrities charge a huge buck for these advertisements and certain celebs like Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, etc. have made fortunes for brands with just a few posts. Most of the time these collaborations do have a huge impact, but there are times when these turn out to be totally unsuccessful.

It is important to know when is it too much, when are you cautiously promoting, and when just plain bombarding. Over-selling something annoys people and they are more likely to ignore those posts. So the success ratio of these campaigns clearly depends on how truthful and influential the celebrities are and how well they have maintained their influential status.
