Being skinny doesn’t mean healthy

Many of us opt for a lean body because we have been told about the dangers of having obesity. The problem is, we are never educated about the thin line between having a healthy or a skinny body. You will come across many people who work out in the gym for hours to burn fat and become lean. One shouldn’t equate thin as healthy.

  • Malnutrition

Now that you are underweight, you feel tired, getting sick quite often, having irregular periods, experiencing hair thinning, dry skin, and teeth issues. These symptoms mean if you have lost nutrition during becoming thin. Do not look away from these symptoms and try to deal with them as soon as possible.

  • Low immunity

As per a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health, an underweight person can easily catch any infection. Malnutrition also causes decreased immune function. However, there is a need for research to understand the connection between weight and immunity. 

  • Higher chance of infertility

Underweight women have low BMIs, which increase the risks of amenorrhea. It also affects the menstrual cycle that can create complications later in your life. Therefore, doctors suggest women have a healthy weight before becoming pregnant.

  • Risk factors

An underweight person often finds it quite challenging to go through surgery because their immune system is not strong enough to deal with infections that come along. If a child is born underweight, there is a possibility, he or she will have slow development compared to other healthy babies.
