“Fun” brands voicing their opinions on social issues through their campaigns.

Image is the most important factor for any brand. Their promotions and marketing campaigns, all are done to enhance brand image and awareness. They also attract audiences based on their image. People who resonate with the brand tend to buy goods and services from them. For instance, a brand like BMW has a luxurious and classy image and it tends to attract customers who come from the richer section of the society. Therefore, a brand image is very important for sustaining growth.

Apart from creating an image, a brand’s stand on social issues and their opinions matter too. This shows the human side of a brand, their culture and what they actually stand for. If a brand takes a stand on a societal issue, it is very well appreciated by the public and this results in an improved image. A brand’s thought process and image go hand-in-hand. If brands stay true to their values, they will surely benefit in the long run. When a brand breaks away from its image and incorporates serious issues in its campaigns, it is loved by the audiences.

Here are some brands with a “fun” image that broke their monotony and tackled serious topics in their campaigns.

AIRBNB:

Airbnb is a brand that has always had a relaxed and easy-going image. However, they made an advertisement when President Trump signed an order to temporarily close American borders to refugees. Airbnb aired this ad during the infamous Super Bowl. The ad was called “We accept” and showed people of different mentalities and cultures together. The tagline read “We are with you.” and it was highly praised by people globally.

NIKE:

Nike’s image is very outgoing and fresh. Though they have always tackled serious issues, one of their campaigns was highly appreciated and garnered eyeballs. This campaign showed Nike displaying a plus-size mannequin in all of their showrooms. This was done to promote their plus-size collection and also to break the stigma around body shaming.

BURGER KING:

This fast-food chain is known to be colorful and fun. This kid-friendly brand always comes up with something out of the box. But, there was this one time when Burger King addressed the social issue of bullying through their advertisement campaign. This ad showed parallels between a bullied Whopper Junior and a bullied teenager. They also gave out the message that the bystander watching someone being bullied is as responsible as the bully himself.

These were some of the brands that voiced their opinions on social issues despite having a “fun” image.
