Giving yourself a haircut at home; the do’s and don’t’s!

With the onset of the pandemic and lockdowns being observed in every corner of the world, we have learnt how to do most of the things on our own, including things we could never imagine doing ourselves. With the salons being shut and our hair reaching annoying lengths, picking up the scissors and giving ourselves a haircut has become almost inevitable.

First things first, as we know prevention to be better than cure, we must think through what kind of a hair cut we want so we can prevent cutting it in a way that will need a cure or cause regret.

Although it is advised to cut our hair only when we are used to doing it and have enough practise, taking safe and careful measures can prevent disasters. Conducting enough research to find out the hairstyles you like, and most importantly, the hairstyle that would suit your face and one that you can carry comfortably, is very important.

When you have taken a decision on a haircut you truly want, it’s time to keep in mind that hair is longer when it’s wet and shrinks when it’s dry. Not only that, knowing what kind of hair you have is equally crucial. Thus, it is advised to cut less as you can always cut more later, if required, but you can attach hair in case of an extra cut.

For longer hair, hair stylists recommend that dead ends at the bottom of the hair should be trimmed and removed. It is also advised to avoid styles such as layering and to for a uniform-length hairstyle instead. When it comes to shorter hair, it is strongly recommended to cut less.
