Social media as a source of news and information.
Let’s be real, we have all been reading this while scrolling down Instagram or Facebook or reading messages off of Whatsapp and this has been our routine for the past 6 months. Social media has always been a big part of our lives but it has grown bigger this pandemic. With everything shut, it has been our only resort. Chatting and video call replaced meeting friends, Candy crush replaced hide and seek, and Kindle replaced books.
Social Media has been a major saviour for all of us. Since most of us are trapped inside our houses, we have had no means to contact to the outside world. But thanks to social media, we know what is going on outside without actually getting off of our sofa. Isn’t that incredible. That is the power of social media.
Be it “Dhoni’s emotional retirement post”, “Joe Biden’s revolutionary win” or just a story of “Baba ka dhaba”, it all is known to us because of social media. Gone are those days, when radio and newspapers were the only means of getting news and collecting information. Just like this pandemic situation is the “new normal”, similar getting to know about world affairs through social media is the “new normal”.
The world is now in our hands. Just a button, and we have access to all the possible information in the world. The memes on social media are enough to let us know what is trending and what are the latest updates. Most celebrities now-a-days use social media to put forward their views and opinions because they know, social media has the power to reach millions in a few seconds.
Social media is a big source of information and that too in all aspects and industries. Be it political or cultural, CSR or entertainment, everything is up on our phones and laptops in mere seconds. Social media may not be the most ideal or filtered way of collecting news or information, but it certainly is fast and doing its job.
