Why does friendship always become a hindrance in the corporate world

When we go to school and college, we always have a gang of friends there for us. Many of us keep the same mentality when we start with our job life. If you have just recently started your career, this article will give you a dose of reality.

Let us be more specific; we are assuming that readers are a mature audience and can deal with the harsh reality of life. During our college time not, many people tell us how difficult a job life will be. Perhaps the intention is not to pressure us with future worries.

A question always pops up: can you make friends in your work circles? The answer is yes, and no. It depends highly on your colleagues and work culture. Many hard-working people don’t look for friendship. All they want to do is work and go back to their home. They believe that friendship can be a distraction. You would never know even you could develop this attitude when you have enough job experience in your life.

Does this mean we shouldn’t make friends with anyone? It’s not about making friends, but it’s about the work culture you will be surrounded with.

  • Office politics: Many of the corporates have toxic office politics. If you become a victim of it, then this can be extremely damaging to your self-esteem. Although you may not take part in office politics, it can affect even the ones you trusted and relied on if they are involved in it.
  • Crazy competition: Having a college mentality will not help you grow in the corporate world. If you are provided with an opportunity in which both you and your friend are eligible and say somehow you got the chance. This situation can create a riff between your friendship.

The bottom line is always to look on the bright side of life; it does not mean that everyone will be selfish and participate in office politics. You can still get some friends that will be there for you in a time of crisis and happiness.
