Why Easter Eggs in movies are so fun.

It takes us just one movie to fall in love with the world of cinema. And after that the madness begins. We are totally hooked and every detail of your favorite movie, director and actor reaches to us as if we are the makers of the film. We all dig so deep into the movies that you study every detail with utmost concentration.

Things become even more special when we are hooked onto a certain universe of movies. Like everybody else, if you are a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you know exactly what I mean. Sequels and prequels are a regular phenomenon for us. We delve so deep into that universe that we start treating it like our baby!

All the fans will agree with me that characters are the second most interesting things about these movies. What’s first you ask? Easter Eggs! Yes, easter eggs are those hidden elements that we all fans wait for. It is as if our eyeballs will pop out while finding those easter eggs.

Now, what are easter eggs?

Typically, movie easter eggs are small, but the serve an important purpose in driving the movie further. They are like hidden gems in a film. They are downright fun to find and push you to re-watch the movie just to find that one scene or shot where the easter egg has been hidden. Sometimes we find easter eggs that are limited to one movie itself and sometimes it is a whole marathon of movies with hidden easter eggs that help us decode the underlying meaning of things. It is also said that writers especially enjoy writing the parts where they know an easter egg is going to be hidden.

Easter eggs are typically put in when you have a long series of films to be made. There you know that one thing will lead to another. Like, an easter egg from Captain America- Civil War, where an old man is seen carrying Peggy’s coffin made news during Avengers Endgame when Steve Rogers turns into an old man. It is moments like these we fans wait for, don’t we?

Predominantly, easter eggs are put in films to keep the audiences hooked and engaged. If they find an easter egg in one film, it is definite that they will wait for the second part to come. This generally builds interest in people and the movie remains in talks for several days. Once easter eggs are seen in films, people start to decode them on social media handles, discussions happen and these easter eggs become the talk of the town.

A fun fact is that earlier, easter eggs were also a means to stop piracy or illegal copying if films. When we used to have DVDs, the original copy would have the official easter egg from the studio in it and this is how you could differentiate them from the pirated ones!

Big guns in the film world like the MCU, the DC Universe, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter series have easter eggs hidden in them.

All in all, easter eggs keep the audiences engaged as well as are fun for the writers to write. They also make the films more commercial than they are and create hype as well.
