Why “lazy days” are the best?

Lazy days are those special days that allow you to relax and enjoy your valuable ‘me’ time, without feeling guilty about it. On your lazy days, you can sleep, pray, read, love, watch your favorite movies or television shows or indulge in your favorite cuisine. The Italians have a concept of relaxing and doing nothing called “La dolce far niente” which literally translates to “the sweetness of doing nothing.”

In today’s era, we are running a race against time in everything we do from getting the kids ready for school, to making breakfast, to attending conference calls, to going grocery shopping, to making lunch and dinner, to attending social events and seminars, and lastly, even going to bed, only to repeat the process all over again the next day.

Imagine how different your life would be if you made time throughout the week to experience la dolce far niente, instead of using your free time to catch up on what change needs to be done in the house, instead of checking your email one last time to see if work still needs you, instead of going across social networking sites to check what is happening in other people’s lives, and instead of using your free time to check your bank balance and pay your bills- What if you spent all day doing nothing?

You will feel relaxed and stress-free. That kind of relaxation is what we all are craving. That need for relaxation exists within each of us and we have to make effort to enjoy it. Not worrying about the future and enjoying where we are in the present moment is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves. Tomorrow is always going to be there and if it isn’t, be glad that you spent your day doing what you loved. Treating yourself to a lazy day is extremely important for your mental health. It is also exactly what your body needs after working so hard every single day.
