Why the dislike button on YouTube must go.

Today, social media usage has grown to another level. Most of the people spend half of their times casually browsing across the apps. Be it Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat, all of them have almost similar functions.

But there is one social media app that is different from all of these. YouTube! Yes, YouTube is one app that is solely dedicated to videos of different genres. You don’t make friends there, but you can definitely follow your favorite influencers or “YouTubers” as they say. The content on YouTube is widespread and people can choose what they wish to see. For beauty videos to movie trailers or songs, YouTube has everything.

There is a comment section where people can post their feelings and thought about the video they just saw. Along with this, there is also one “like” button and one “dislike” button. This also has been implemented for people to express their feelings.

But recently there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the “dislike” button specifically. This button has stirred controversy in recent times. There have times where celebrities or other YouTube pages have hidden this button to avoid backlash and controversy.

People are of the opinion that the “dislike” button should be permanently removed from YouTube. This is because whenever a video faces hate on the platform; YouTubers simply hide the button. There is practically no use for this button because hate can be spread even through comments. The “dislike” button is just complimentary with the “like” button. There is no specific use for this button.

The dislike button was mainly made so that people could express the feeling that they dislike the particular video. But today when you have the option of removing or disabling the button, why keep it? Also, the videos with maximum number of dislikes also trend on YouTube. This unnecessarily promotes negativity.

Some of the reasons why the dislike button from YouTube should go:

  • Spreads hatred
  • Promotes negative
  • Has no specific use
  • Can be hidden by the owner of the video
  • Makes negative or bad videos “trend”

So, what is your opinion about this button?
