Children on the internet; what you should be aware of.
We live in times where everything can be accessed by the internet. It is the means for all the information we have today. From education to work, everything is available online. It is like if the internet perished, then the world will come to a standstill.
As we are progressing, the exposure of children towards the internet is increasing. Today, at a very small age, children are using mobile phones. This has caused a lot of internet usage for them.
One more major reason that children are getting exposed to the Internet is the pandemic we are currently dealing with. This pandemic has forced children to stay home and that has caused a loss in their playtime. As a result, children have taken to the internet for passing their time. Another thing is that schools have gone online. And because of this most of their time is spent on mobiles and other electronic devices.
Though the Internet has its pros, here are some things you should be aware of:
- There is a lot of sensitive content on the internet. (Like murder videos)
- The internet is not protected and there is always a chance of identity theft and other violations.
- Children’s mental health deteriorates because of this.
- Longer hours on the internet causes laziness into the child.
- Added exposure of the internet might cause weakening of the eyes.
- Children stop socializing physically.
- They can also be exposed to pornography or other adult content.
To combat this, you as parents can take the following measures:
- Protect all your devices with a child lock.
- Limit their screen time.
- Keep a watch on their activities.
- Fix a schedule for the day that includes limited time on the internet.
- Encourage them to socialize.
- Promote playing physical, mind games and puzzles.
- Spend quality time with them.
Children are sensitive beings; they are in a growing stage where they require utmost attention and care. If children are exposed to the online world and if something goes wrong, they will be scared for life. So, as parents, take the right call and protect the future of your child.
