Actors that went the extra mile for their roles.

Going on rigorous diets and practically living at the gym are things that actors are known to do to prepare for their roles. However, some actors just push the boundaries and go above and beyond to be as authentic to the role as possible. Let’s have a look at such actors.

In “Taxi Driver”, Robert De Niro went undercover and worked as a real cab driver in New York to get a sense of the day-to-day life of a cab driver. During breaks on the set, he used to go out to pick up passengers too!

While shooting for “Django Unchained”, Leonardo DiCaprio had slammed his hand hard on the table which caused him to break a glass and injure himself. But rather than stopping, he ignored it, didn’t break out of character and continued on with the scene. The blood we see on the screen is actually his own blood.
In “The Revenant”, DiCaprio ate real raw Bison and even slept in animal carcasses. DiCaprio won his first Oscar for “The Revenant”. Quite rightfully so.

Nicolas Cage is one of the most outstanding method actors today. In order to get the right emotional and physical space for his role of a war veteran in “Birdy”, Cage had some of his teeth pulled and spent five weeks’ time off-set with his head completely wrapped in bandages. Talk about going to extremes!

Adrien Brody in “The Pianist”, quite literally gave up everything in order to portray a holocaust survivor. To look as real as he could in the role, he decided to starve himself and consequently lost 30 pounds in six weeks for the final ghetto scene. He even learned to play Chopin and also speak Polish. Brody even broke up with his girlfriend and shut himself from any kind of contact from the outside world to understand the natural mindset of a Jew. After such unique determination, he finally got the due credit for everything he had done when he won an Oscar for his brilliant performance.
