Advertising to men, and how it’s different in tone and execution

Its a fact, men and women are different, not just in they way they look or are built but also in the way they think and believe. Their approach towards life is different and their beliefs towards life are different as well. Advertising is a very evident example of how different they are and how products are advertised to them. It is quite understandable that one would not advertise a product to men and women in the same way, the approach will be completely different.

Let’s take a factor in account and discuss on that. Men are generally more practical in their approach and women are more emotional. So, when a product is being advertised to men, you will notice a story is not built up, the advertisement goes straight on to the product and its features. On the other hand, a story will attract women more.

Let’s take a simple example of a face wash, they are advertised for both men and women, but the way it is advertised is completely different. A stereotypical face wash ad directed towards men will have features of the product mentioned and a bunch of women falling for the lead. This is how a lot of face washes are advertised. But on the other hand, when it comes to women, the face wash is advertised in a way of looking good and feeling great about herself and not anyone around. A similar product but the approach is evidently different.

When we talk about the tone and the execution, the advertisements that are directed towards men are always straight forward and too the point because that’s how the world perceives them to be. Of course, there are exceptions but the advertisements are made keeping the ground-reality of maximum people in mind.

The sheer fact that products like tea and detergent is always advertised towards women and products like car and insurance are always advertised towards men make a clear point of distinction. We are not saying, everything is gender-related but a lot of these things are. Do we wish these stereotypes end? Sure! Are they going to end anytime soon? We don’t think so! But minor things can be changed for the betterment of the society.
