Today sales and offers have become a very common phenomena and brands have been using them extensively. Every other day you see a sale on most of the E-commerce websites with offers that excite the customers. But why have these sales become so necessary? One of the major reasons is increasing competition. As competition increases, the need for brands to up their game also increases. Various marketing tactics like ‘end of season sale’ or ‘bonanza sale’ are very common. But along with these, a widely used marketing technique today is BOGO (Buy One Get One Free).

Whenever we see a BOGO offer, we instantly get excited and feel like buying something, isn’t it? BOGO deals are used for attracting customers by saying that you will get 2 things in the price of one. There are mainly two types of BOGO deals; first where you buy one thing and get another free and the second where you buy one at MRP and get the second one on 50% discount.

Here’s why are BOGO deals useful for brands:

Creates a sense of urgency:

BOGO deals often tend to create a sense of urgency in the minds of customers. It is psychological that they fell the products will run out stock when they have a BOGO deal running on them. This is because many people buy products during this time. And it is a good opportunity for brands to use terms like ‘hurry! Limited period offer.’ This leads to more buying during sales.

Attracts customers:

More than anything else, BOGO deals catch attention and attract customers on a huge level. This attraction is because of the “free” part in this deal. Whenever people here the word “free”, they instantly get on to buy or just check out things up for sale.

Generates traffic:

This is especially for E-commerce sites who sell products solely by online means. Whenever there is a BOGO deal running, people tend to visit the site at least once. Not to buy things but just to casually have a look at the products up for sale. This generates traffic on these sites and at the end it is beneficial for them.

BOGO deals have become common and they are used as a marketing tactic more than often by brands today.
