Going viral on social media, good or bad?

The most common phrase used by Millennial ‘going viral’ almost every internet user has heard about the word. Going viral means any content or video circulates so massively that it becomes the popular thing in virtual reality or social media. Primarily any video or content that gets many likes, rewatched, retweeted, commented, reposted, blogged about, talked about, and earning, more views that content or video is referred to as viral content.

Getting viral can turn your reputation or image overnight into a success or total failure depending on the content. Everything has a negative and positive aspect, for instance when Donald Trump visited India and gave a speech that went completely wrong for his image. People were making a remix of the speech and made it viral on social media and forwarding them on Whatsapp groups. This was bad publicity for Trump where he lost the interest of the Indian citizens and his speech became a funny viral video.

Counter to this, when the ALS association actively launched a campaign to spread awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to encourage people to donate for the research of the disease. The campaign was ‘the bucket challenge’, where many sportspersons, celebrities, businessmen, and common people took the challenge and donated for the research. This campaign was a fun activity where joined hands and made it viral for a good cause.

There a thin line between good or bad and any content creator should plan and concentrate on the quality of the content to make it viral. One should not compromise on good and meaningful content to make it viral, focus on what your organization promotes, and let the people know about your amazing work which might get viral.
