Influence Of Product Placement Through Movies

Brand advertising through movies is more common now than ever. It is a form of product placement (advertising in which brands are featured in production for a large audience). Product placement or embedded marketing/advertising is typically found in movies, television shows, radio, and—less commonly—live performances.

Product placement has gained prominence from brands to reach their target audience subtly. Barring the “traditional ads”, businesses are using product placement to increase their sales, brand awareness, and draw in customers.

Branding through movies is a method of modern merchandising for brands to reach their target audiences. Recall some movies you have seen where the lead actor is drinking a Pepsi or Coca Cola, or using a branded device which is emphasized in the scene.

The brand or product is placed carefully, ensuring that the audience fails to realize it is an advertisement while also receiving the branding message. These are usually reputable and renowned brands that tie-up with established production houses that give blockbuster movies time and again.

This gives the brand exposure in both, the national and international entertainment industry and reasonably impacts the consumer’s evaluation of the brand. For example; the globally acclaimed 2019 movie Joker which is now known for its exceptional success commercially has nearly 20 different brand placements that took 13 minutes of screen time.

Many other movies have far more product placement that is valued way too high for us to fathom. Next time you watch a movie, notice the subtly placed brands; but don’t miss the movie trying to figure out how much the production houses are making!
