Ketchup! A condiment that divided the world.

Debates are very common in the world. One small thing happens and a debate is steered on social media as well as news channels. People like to put forth their opinions, and the ones that do not agree are ready to contradict them. Today, debates happen on the simplest of things. The exceeding use of social media makes even basic debates very eventful.

Some time ago, the entire world was divided on something nobody could have ever imagined. Ketchup! Yes, the entire world was debating about ketchup. Nobody would have ever imagined ketchup being discussed on social media as well as on news channels. While a part of the world laughed and brushed off this debate, the others were seriously involved.

The question in debate was, “whether you place your ketchup in the fridge or the pantry”. This had the internet divided. Some said that they placed their ketchup in the fridge, while others rooted for the pantry.

A Twitter user tweeted saying, “If you keep ketchup in the pantry, you’re an animal and there’s no room for you in a civilized society.” Supporters of keeping the ketchup in the pantry reasoned that the ketchup at the restaurant is kept outside and we still use it. Pro fridge supporters debated saying the usage of ketchup in restaurants is fast so they can afford to keep it outside or at room temperature. Another user tweeted saying, “I could never date someone that keeps their ketchup in the cupboard and not in the fridge.” Talk show hosts also raised this question to celebrities and their opinions were divided too!

Heinz, the ketchup manufacturing giant, released an official statement saying, “Because of its natural acidity, Heinz ketchup is shelf-stable. However, its stability after opening can be affected by storage conditions. We recommend that this product, like any processed food, be refrigerated after opening. Refrigeration will maintain the best product quality after opening.” They played smart and didn’t really pick one side. Their point was put across and neither of the sides was hurt.

All the debates aside, everything boils down to one’s personal taste. If you like your ketchup cold, keep it in the fridge. If you like it at room temperature, store it in the pantry!
