School cliques and their importance

At some point in our lives, we all wanted to be a part of that “cool group” in school, didn’t we? Being in a cool group was popular and trendy. Everyone was part of at least one group during their school days, be it a nerdy or a cool group. The groups we see in films or TV shows are nothing compared to the real-life ones.

There is a certain term given to these, called “school cliques.” Now, what are school cliques? In school, cliques consist of people who have a common interest in different subjects. They are like small and exclusive societies and not everyone can be a part of them. There are leaders to decide who can be a part of the group and who can’t. Once you are part of the group, you cannot talk or make friends with anybody outside of it. There are certain rules and regulations to be followed and every member has to abide by them.

Unlike the traditional group of friends, school cliques are different and work on different dynamics. Mainly based on personal interests, these cliques are exclusive. People believe in the same ideology and people are at the risk of being expelled or ruled out if they don’t follow it. While many people feel that school cliques harm children because they divide them, they also have many positive impacts.

They are said to develop a child’s personality. Being in school cliques gives children a sense of pride and their self-esteem also increases. Because children stay with people who share similar interests, it adds to their knowledge and makes school life fun. These cliques shape a child’s personality because their interaction happens with other kids who are intellectual and smart. Children grow into being good human beings.

Despite all the negative thoughts surrounding school cliques, they are helpful for children and surely help them in excelling in their choice of field.
