Should WFH continue even after the pandemic is over?

The year 2020 brought with it many unexpected things. One of the most devastating things being the pandemic and the consequences it brought with itself. It also brought in a new work culture called Work from Home. It is basically where employees stay at home and do their work instead of going to the office or any other workplace.

On one hand, this work from home gave employees the liberty to work safely, from the comfort of their homes, and on the other hand, it also created stress and anxiety. The WFH culture is an ongoing debate since its inception. While some say it has given them comfort and eased their jobs, some believe that it has created a lot of mental and physical issues.

Like every coin has two sides, work from home also has its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • The comfort of working from one’s own home.
  • Extremely safe as contact with others is eliminated.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • No specific dress code.
  • Most of the work happens online without any hassle.
  • People can spend longer time with their families.
  • More time to indulge in hobbies.
  • Saves traveling time and expenses.

Cons:

  • Increased stress in the employees.
  • Increased lethargy and laziness in the employees.
  • No fixed schedule for working.
  • Increased screen time that results in various other problems.
  • People have to be available 24/7.
  • Greater use of technology.
  • It can get frustrating in the longer run.

With both of these lists, it can be easily inferred that WFH can have different consequences different for different people. The billionaire and philanthropist- Bill Gates said, “The work from home culture has worked well and many companies will continue with the system even after the coronavirus pandemic ends.”

The question remains, should WFH be continued even after the pandemic is over? This question has stirred a lot of debate and people have mixed reactions to it. While some are enjoying this WFH culture, the others just want to get out and work!

Only time will tell that if this culture will continue or not. We have to wait and watch!
