Since when do views on a video determine your worth

As the world is progressing, there many new horizons opening up. One such horizon is the social media world. Social media today has been deeply ingrained in our lives. We just cannot live without it now. Social media is like a disease that has infected the majority of people in the world. With newer technology and gadgets coming in everyday, the usage of social media has increased even more.

Though social media has proven to be beneficial time & again, its extensive use has brought along problems that did not exist before. People now feel insecure about problems that did not exist before. For instance, if we see someone on a vacation or living a better life than us on social media, we feel insecure. Our horizons have broadened but our worlds have become very small.

One major problem today is the “views.” Be it on YouTube or any other platform, views have become synonymous to proving your worth. If a so-called influencer has 1 million views on their video, then they are said to be famous or “the best”. But why is it so? Why as everything boiled to just a number? One of the major reasons for this is widespread media exposure. Today, the exposure is so much that people are constantly counting their views or likes. With newer features like stories or reels coming in everyday, the growth of video streaming has increased.

This exposure has also led to many people ending their lives due to lesser “views” on their videos. It means that views have a significant standing in our lives today. The number is important for us and without that we are incomplete. But is this really the right thing? Do views on a video really count our worth?

This “view” culture has just made us hooked onto our phones and we have forgotten how to truly live. Our worth is much more than the views we have on our social media accounts. More views do not define you as a good person or less views do not degrade your worth. They are just intangible things that shouldn’t affect your daily life. Yes, having a huge number of views is good, but it shouldn’t define you as a person. Your actions and your deeds truly define you as a person. Your life shouldn’t simply boil down to a number that can be tampered easily.

So, the next time you are worried about your views, remember that nor do they define you and neither are they permanent. Leave the numbers behind and live your life to the fullest.
