Survival As A Woman

Being a woman is hard, so is being judged on beauty, clothes, posture, and eating habits.  The saying “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is certainly one thing we can all agree on. Though the perception of beauty is subjective, so are the other factors that are always shifting. Every woman feels pressure from society for just being a woman. Be it cosmetics or sanitary needs, women have always paid extra in the name of ‘women tax’.

Disrupting the common perception that being a woman is easy. Each one of us is familiar with the dealings of sexist remarks, the unwanted opinions that pull down the self-confidence of even the prettiest face regretting the beauty they have. Sexism, chauvinism, patriarchal subjugation, and creepy looks are some of the dilemmas that a woman has to bear to exist in the world.

Gender inequality, more responsibilities at home, and getting nothing in return yet, she is not provided with the basic- appreciation. A woman has to first survive as a girl, get away from female infanticide, get her basic education, fight long term discrimination and revolutionalize women empowerment so that she can build an identity of her own.

She is denied identity in her own house after marriage, not extended the property right, even after respective laws and demand of dowry for marriage by her in-laws. Thus, she not only loses her sleep but also compromises her beauty and career when she gets married then later fosters a child on their demand. She is not even given the freedom to plan her own family. The price a woman pays to survive in this world has no match; she is always expected to be an all-rounder regardless of the hurdles she faces.
