The food prices in movie theaters.

In this day and age of perpetual streaming platforms, where even Oscar nominated directors presently produce exclusive Netflix based movies, people are bound to choose the option to hold tight to the sofa at their home over a night out at the theatres. Nobody these days has the time to waste getting dressed, spend fuel driving and finding a parking space for a movie that they can enjoy from the comfort of their room. Yet, when people do go out for a film at the theatre, it doesn’t take long to realise that there is nothing quite like the old fashioned enchantment of the film going experience. It’s the energy of anticipation that the lights will go down, the boom of sound, and the experience of taking in a story on the big screen with a shared audience.

Also, is there any food more inseparable from a movie going experience than popcorn at the cinema? Cheese, caramel, buttered or even boring plain old salted, its the perfect companion for your movie night in or out, the only difference being in theatres you have to splurge on it while at home its at a petty penny price that is quite negligible.

Basically put, cinemas are a business just like any other form of earning money. Except if you’re sneaking food in, there isn’t generally any other rivalry for food once you’re inside since the person is then left without a choice but to rely on the cinema theatre to provide them with not only entertainment but food too, no matter at what price that is, it is left as the only choice which can feel unfair to a lot. People often feel guilty splurging on common things that they would not have to pay that much for under normal circumstances and what  gets them mad even more is in that sense, cinemas can basically charge anything they desire, essentially in light of the fact that they can and clients will in any case pay for it due to the lack of choices.

With the reduce in people going for the movie theatre experience, the ticket prices have been kept steady while some have been even dropped to attract customers with attractive discounts on food with ticket to lure in people but then charging them exorbitantly for the cinema theatre food. Its a business model they follow to make up for the losses that has come with technological advancement and difference in attitude of people over the years.
