The Perfect Brand Advertiser

Movies are something that can easily blur the lines between languages, culture, and emotions. It is an escape from reality which is why it is so loved and appreciated. There is a reason why people in India love visiting the theatres so much and why the most amount of movies are produced here, regardless of the language barrier. We have now opened up to watching different genres and movies in different languages and understanding their culture which is not unnoticed by the brands. There is a reason why a lot of brands chose movies to advertise their products, as they know the brand will not go unnoticed.

We, as audiences have seen so many films and picked up so many trends that inspired us, be it the iconic hairstyle in “Tere Naam” or Patiala suits in “Jab we met”. Similarly, we also have bought a lot of brands and their products unknowingly just because we saw it in some shot in a film. That’s how adverse and influenced we are. Let’s have a look at some of the examples to gain a better understanding of the matter.

We are all aware of the brand “Coke” and how popular it already is. It needs no recognition but that was not the case, say some time back. Coke gained a lot of recognition in India after it was seen in the film “Taal”, directed by Subhash Ghai, starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. It gained so much popularity and then a lot of people were seen drinking it. This was still a recent example, this has been done for a while now. After the film “Prem Diwane” that came out in 1992, a lot of people started carrying Benzer bags because a particular scene was shot in the Benzer stores of Mumbai. This is how much people get influenced.

Popularity may depend on the audience and the audience depends a lot on films. Films can change the way a person thinks and can easily convince them to purchase something. As mentioned earlier, language isn’t a barrier anymore, a Gujrati film “Shu Thayu” has an entire song called “Shaan Bhaan Bhule” that revolves around product placements. A lot people were inspired by it and a lot of brands that featured in the film witnessed heavy sales. Correct product placement is enough to stir the audience’s attention and also enough to attract potential consumers.

Brands know the amount of following and loyal fan-base movies have, which they use to their advantage. Movies can be a great platform for them to showcase their products to the world, not only does it do wonders to the brand but it also has a great recall value that benefits the brand immensely. Films are easily one of the most influential platforms that there is, and brands need that. They need a platform that will convince the potential consumers to go ahead and buy the product and movies do that to perfection.

Sometimes, a lot of product placements aren’t even intentional but the effect it had on people was something that can’t be replicated. This is why the brands started experimenting more with placing themselves and advertising themselves through movies and showbiz has not disappointed them in any way. It has now become a common strategy that brands use, and it works like a charm.
