What is SEM?

Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of digital marketing that is used by brands to advertise their products or services on search engine. This is mostly a paid form of marketing. It is a process of gaining website traffic by purchasing ads that are shown on web page results. For instance; when you type something on Google, the first result you get is an ad. If you type ‘makeup’ in the search bar of Google, the first result will be an ad for downloading an app that sells makeup. This is what is SEM. This paid form of marketing is rapid, immediate and ever changing. Because of its immediate effects it is a favorite among brands. 

Different types of SEM

Pay-per-Click (PPC) Brands and companies bid on certain keywords that they think are trending and those that will help them in their promotions. Keywords are important because that is what the users type on the search engine. Advertisers bid on words that will trigger their audience and that are related to the product they are promoting. PPC means that whenever a user clicks on that keyword, the company that has bid the highest will get paid. Payments are made for every click made by the user. 

Local SEO Local SEO is a type of search engine optimization (SEO) that focuses on getting your business listing to show up in Google map results. Whenever you type something on the search engine, a map result of related places shows up. There is no charge for these types of clicks. For instance: If you type ‘salons’ on the Google search bar, it will show a map result of salons near you along with other results. This is called local SEO.

Organic SEO Organic SEO means optimizing the searches on any web page to build and promote your brand. It improves the quality of your search and attracts traffic to your site. This is an organic and unpaid way to carry out searches. This type of marketing takes time but is effective in the long run.
