What you need to know about the Farmers’ Protest

2020 was the year of strangeness, anger, disease, deaths and also hope. There were a lot of things that we didn’t expect to happen but it did anyway and who are we to stop fate or nature. It does what it has to do. Similarly, during September 2020, there was a lot of anger and growing frustration in the minds of the people because of the new law that was passed. The farmers and a lot of common people were not happy regarding what happened and instantly showed their anger and venting it out in the form of protest. Thousands of farmers from Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan marched towards Delhi to protest their rights.

According to what the farmers said, they fear that with the recent law enacted, it will dismantle their MSP system, which is Minimum Support Price, and lead them to a lot of losses. With the corporate houses involved, it will dictate and rule over them leading to them getting less crops which will ruin their livelihood. They also argued that with the disbanding of mandi, they will not get the price that they deserve for their crops and will purely become business.

The farmers demand to take back this law so that they can come back to doing their job. They mainly want withdrawal of 3 laws that directly affect the sale of the crop. The farmers also want the MSP system back legally through the amendment of laws. The farmers continue to protest and are not ready to give up or accept the law passed.

A lot of celebrities also became a part of this protest, where they virtually tweeted and supported them. Diljit Dosanjh, the famous actor and singer even joined the farmers in the protest and supported them immensely. There isn’t a decision that is still made regarding the act but the farmers wouldn’t give up.

According to the government, the law will give and provide the farmers with more options to sell their at better price crop and make profit. This is something that they have assured the farmers but again, there hasn’t been a complete answer to conclude with. It is still an unsure decision of how long will the protect last.
