From The Beatles to BTS; how boybands have changed the music industry

For anyone who is still unaware of who BTS is, they are a Grammy nominated 7 member boyband from South Korea who have taken the world and all major music industries by a storm. They have proven truly that music transcends language. Rolling out hits after hits, trending number one on Twitter everyday to breaking new records. Their only competition seems to be them! They have done it all. They have a long list of “firsts” to their names and it doesn’t seem to be stopping any soon. The fandom of BTS is known as ARMY.

BTS have been often called the Beatles of our generation, maybe due to them bringing back the insane energy of true fandom craze and Boyband days’ glory. The Beatles were a symbol for a new era of music. The flamboyance, the melody and the theatrics. They had it all. They also gave an entire new dimension to fan hysterics.

BTS in this regards is quite similar except for them singing in Korean and adding killer dance routines. The theatrics, the flamboyance, the message, the beats, its all there packed into one BTS concert. Selling out the iconic Wembley Stadium with over sixty thousand fans screaming and changing in Korean, a feat not possible for many. Its never been done before. Just like what The Beatles were BTS too is, a never before seen phenomenon. Both the bands took the music industries for a spin when they did not expect  it at all. Before The Beatles, boybands were not given the importance and respect as they would give to other artists simply based on the fact that they were a “boyband”. They took that very word and turned it into a legendary thing, just like what BTS is doing now.

This has shown the world what true Globalisation is. Its shown that no matter what, if a message resonates to people, they don’t need it to be in their language.

While the generations have changed, the fandoms have come and gone, the craze these fandoms bring with their enthusiasm for their idols is on another level. The energy over the years have not changed, it has just moved forward with times. It has been proof that new things that might look ridiculous in the beginning can turn into a once in a lifetime event, so join the ride while you can and enjoy!
