Obsessed fans and how far they can go.

Films, sports or music, every industry needs fans to support them. Fans act as an anchor and are integral for the functioning of any industry. Today, industries are surviving because of their loyal fanbase and these fans can make or break their image.

Being a fan is a thing of pride for any person. Everybody at some point in their lives, fans over a celebrity or a sports star or anyone else. But there are some people who obsessively fan over people and become maniacs. Their love for these celebrities increases so much that they become overly involved in the celebrity’s life. They tend to follow them or go to other lengths just to catch a glance of them.

When this obsession goes to a level that is harmful for a person, this phenomenon is known as Celebrity Worship Syndrome (CWS). It is an obsessive addictive disorder wherein a person can go to any extent for the celebrity they are obsessed with. These celebrities can be anybody ranging from film stars to Instagram or Facebook influencers. These obsessive fans come in various types.

Some of which are:

  • Simple obsessive fans. (Generally, includes stalking of the celebrity by the fan, 70% dominance by men)
  • Love obsessive fans. (Fans tend to fall in love with their celebrity obsessions and are said to be in an imaginary relationship with them)
  • Erotomaniac fans. (Here, fans believe that the celebrities are in love with them and this leads to a mental disorder)
  • Intense-personal fans. (this is a mediocre level obsession where the fans believe that celebrities are their soulmates)

Some real-life cases have also occurred where fans have gone to extreme heights for their celebrity obsessions. Here are a few examples of the same:

Kareena Kapoor fan:

This fan had been writing letters to Kareena Kapoor Khan for years, but in vain. Where her letters went unanswered, her fand decided to give her a diamond necklace worth Rs. 40 Lakh.

Slaman Khan’s fan:

This fan by the name of Maulik Babubhai went on an indefinite hunger strike outside the sets of the film ‘Prem Ratam Dhan Payo.’ The reason for this was that he just wanted to get one picture with Salman Khan.

The Rajinikanth Fan:

This fan went to the heights of committing suicide so he could donate his kidney to the superstar who was undergoing dialysis in Singapore.

Aditya Roy Kapoor Fan:

This fan went to the heights of writing a letter to her favorite actor in her own blood. This was quite crazy because antics like these can get life-harming at times.

These are just a few examples. Fans have no limits when it comes to celebrities they are obsessed with. They can go to any limit just to get a glance of their favorite celebrities. Sometimes this obsessive nature can take a dark turn and can ruin the life of the fan. As we saw in the movie ‘Fan’ how a fan was obsessed by the superstar Aryan Khanna. Both the roles were played by Shah Rukh Khan and showed how ghastly things can get for a fan.
