Recipients of the vaccine and how they will be prioritized

The COVID-19 vaccine was the best thing to happen in 2021. It came in as a ray of hope for people. The vaccine is something the entire world has been waiting for. When the news of the vaccine being launched first came out, people were ecstatic and all cheered up. This news which seemed like a distant dream was now turning into reality. The vaccine is finally here and people are elated.

But the vaccine will certainly not be distributed to random people at random times. The recipients of the vaccine will be prioritized by keeping different factors in mind. Their occupation, age, and gender will have a major role to play in this. While WHO (World Health Organization) has laid out its own rules for the vaccine drive, it has also given the countries liberty to choose how they want to spread the vaccine.

Here, in India, the vaccine drive will follow a certain order and will be based on different factors. The demand and supply of the vaccine will also play a major role for the same. The bifurcation of the recipients has been done by keeping all the health concerns in mind. Because the drive doesn’t limit itself to one dose, the timespan is longer and the whole process will certainly take time.

Here’s how the priorities for the vaccine recipients have been set:

OCCUPATION:

The vaccine will be first tried on all the frontline workers who have been giving their all during this pandemic situation. Doctors being the first, this vaccine will be tried on different medical staff including nurses and ward boys. Apart from the healthcare workers, the daily wage earners will also be given a dose.

AGE:

Age is a very considerate factor when it comes to the vaccine. As we all know, people above a certain age are at a higher risk of contracting the virus. Keeping this in mind, the senior citizens will be vaccinated next. Mainly people above the age of 65 years.

GENDER:

Now, after the other two get vaccinated, there are talks of women being next in line. Along with women kids will also get a chance to be vaccinated.

Every country isn’t certainly following the same pattern. Different countries have set various rules and regulations for themselves and will be working accordingly.

Will the vaccine be effective? Only time will tell!
