The world of Punk’d

In the wake of the early 2000s, people were raw and full of energy. It was the era of wackiness and over the top dressing. People were free-spirited and fun. During this time, MTV was all the rage.

On channels like MTV, shows about pranking common people or placing a live camera set-up anywhere were quite popular. People used to binge on such shows. Around this time came a show called Punk’d that dominated television for years to come. It was a classic pranking show that aired for the first time in 2003. Created by Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg, this show was a blend of the ‘hidden camera and pranks’ genre. Ashton as a host would call celebrities on the show and would trick them into being pranked. Being “Punk’d” meant you were successfully pranked. The concept of the show was very unique as it included a variety of outdoor and indoor sets The show’s first prank was staged inside actor Justin Timberlake’s home where a set-up of an income-tax raid was created. A popular segment of the show also included the hosts walking up to the celebrities on the red carpet in the disguise of an interview and ending up pranking them instead.

The show was funny, entertaining, and a blast to watch. It became highly popular among the youngsters and was a new concept that was widely accepted by people across the globe. Punk’d was a trendsetter in many ways and was a huge hit. Its last episode aired on MTV in 2007.

For all the fans who miss this show, a reboot was made in 2020 that aired on Quibi.
