Ticket Scalping is still a grey area between what is legal and what is ethical.

The market works on a very simple principle of supply and demand. If a product is in demand then the market value of that product goes high or in simpler terms, that product becomes more expensive while if a product is available in surplus, when lucky they maintain their market value and when not they lose it.

Ticket scalping has been in existence since tickets itself. In simple words, it is known as the process of buying in demand tickets in bulk amounts to the point where the market price of that ticket goes up due to the shortage in availability. People who are involved in scalping always keep checking and surveying the market in search of events that they are sure will gain mass attention, like concerts by popular artists with a dedicated fandom. They will then ready themselves to get bulk amount of tickets to that event so that it is not available anymore, which will then give them an advantage over others to sell those very tickets for a higher price and people desperate to experience the event will take them up even on their exorbitant rates.

In modern times, scalping has become automated by using scalping software that are cheap comparatively and can buy out huge amounts of products at one go. This has become a huge threat to ticketing websites. Using ticket bots which are software they buy products in numbers not available to ordinary users. They then take the role of resellers and sell the same tickets to the people which becomes a problem for sellers and general people as this is extremely unethical where they take the product curated by others, do nothing to contribute to their business and simply exploit them. It lets them exploit the artists, the thousands of workers working to make the event a success, the ticketing partners and in the end the fans. This also can garner a bad reputation for any ticketing website and even an artist if the scalping is not done after due research. The tickets could show a sold-out event while due to miscalculation on the part of the scalper but then the show could be a flop which would be bad in itself but it would be worse as the artist would also look like a cheat for false media play.
