What is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing has gained traction in the past years hugely with the rise in the number of people turning to digital platforms to buy products and services. It is the process by which an affiliate earns a certain amount of profit for marketing another person’s or company’s products. The affiliate chooses a product they use, then promotes that product to their fanbase or followers and earns a piece of the profit from each sale that takes place due to their influence.

The sales are often tracked via affiliate links from one website to another. Affiliate link is the link provided by the company or person whose product is to be promoted by the affiliates and this helps to track the traffic generated by them and sales with the help of tracking code.

Affiliate program are  programs, through which affiliates can refer people to different products and services and in return they get a share of every product they helped in the sale of.

Sites like Amazon now have affiliate programs that helps content creators link their followers directly to products that they recommend and they even let people make own wish list from which their followers can choose and buy products. With the rise in fame of social media content creators, influencers often use affiliate links to let their followers buy what they use while making some profit.

The idea behind this is pretty simple. It’s based on the idea of revenue sharing. If you do have a product and want to sell in the the market instead of other traditional ways like direct advertising, you can offer promoters who work as middle men here a financial incentive or commission through an affiliate program. If you have no product and still want to make money, then you can promote a product that you feel has value and earn a part of its profit from it as an affiliate marketer.
