What Game of Thrones series has taught us about Company Branding

Game of Thrones, apart from being the trendiest and the most loved television show, has proven again and again that it can teach us a lot. From life lessons to branding and marketing, it is a whole package. Here are a few things from the show that are branding expectations.

  1. Exceptional Logo:

People will recognise your product or the brand by the logo. Make sure it is as kickass as it can be. It should be truthful to your brand and should showcase something meaningful that your brand represents.

Just like the Dire wolf logo of the Stark’s or the three dragons on the logo of the Targaryen’s.

  1. Catchy tagline:

The tagline is again something by which your brand is acclaimed. It needs to be appropriate and catchy. Something that gets a place in anyone’s mind and they don’t forget it easily.

An example can be catchy phrases used in the show by each house, like ‘fire and blood’, ‘winter is coming’ or ‘hear me roar’.

  1. Maintaining reputation:

Brand reputation has to be the utmost priority in whatever you do. To maintain an image in the market is difficult but it should be done smartly and tactfully. Once a mistake is made, it can’t be erased from the mind of the customers.

Just like Jamie Lannister was called the ‘King Slayer’, because of something he did twenty years ago.

  1. Build Loyalty:

To create and maintain a loyal connection between your brand and the customers is predominant. Just like in the show, Daenerys Targaryen goes on freeing the slaves, cities and also the Unsullied army. This is how she won their trust, support and loyalty.

Though you can’t be as loyal as Ned Stark 😛 (Ned is sure missed) but we can’t be as seditious as Tywin Lannister.

(One of the most loyal characters and public favourites, Bronn)

  1. Others opinions should not destroy your image:

Speak the truth. You can’t let your brand reputation go into shreds just because of some random bad review. Speak and stand for your brand.

As rightly said by Daenerys Targaryen, “I am Daenerys Stormborn. Your Masters may have told you lies about me, or they may have told you nothing, it does not matter. I have nothing to say to them. I speak only to you.”

It shouldn’t matter what is being said about you, good or bad. Speak truthfully to your clients or customers directly. Tell them what your brand is. This builds the trust.

  1. Specify uniqueness of your brand:

The brand ethics should be true to itself. A brand should be unique and so must its products. Trying to won’t lead you far. As mentioned by Trion Lannister to our beloved Jon Snow, “Let me give you some advice bastard. Never forget what you are. The rest of the world will not. Wear it like armour, and it can never be used to hurt you.”

Just like Jon Snow’s Unique way of ruling and yet becoming the post of the King in the North.

Don’t be afraid to showcase the trueness of your brand. It is what it is. Don’t try too hard.
