Story or Subtitles, a confusion

We now have so much exposure, all thanks to the Internet. It introduced us to so much content lately from all over the world. Initially, we stuck to movies or series, that range from our country or the language that we could speak, but now because of the unlimited content available, we have had the pleasure of getting to watch some of the most incredible stories. There is a little problem, just a minor one though. Reading the subtitles may cause the trouble of us missing the scene, which is why a lot of people do not read it.

Spanish series and even Korean dramas have gained a lot of popularity, especially in India. Not just that, films like Hellaro (Gujarati movie) and Super Deluxe (Tamil movie) garnered so much appreciation from the people who didn’t even speak the native language, all thanks to the subtitles. We do agree that a lot of times, we tend to miss the scene because we were busy understanding the context, but this is something that can be fixed. When you are watching something online, you always have the option to rewind it in case you didn’t understand and it makes up for the entire watching experience.

We have the luxury of getting access to so much content, that not only is incredibly well-made but very interesting as well. There are so many choices available, so there is something for everyone. Not wanting to read the subtitles, just because we can’t multi-task may be something that you regret, as it will make you miss so many incredible movies and shows. There are so many incredible films and series available, that are underrated just for the sheer fact that people don’t come around to watching it because of the language barrier.

Not only will the subtitles help you get in touch will incredible content, but also helps in learning about the culture and language, which is quite splendid. Getting to learn about different cultures through the means of series and movies is so exciting, as you are learning as well as educating yourself while doing something that you love. We as an audience need to appreciate great cinema, as there is so much hard work that goes into making a good film/series. We are quick to complain, there aren’t a lot of good movies or series, but the truth is we never take the effort to search other languages just because we are too lazy to read the subtitles.

We must try and expand our horizons, as we never know what we might find out. Thankfully because of the OTT platforms that are at our service, we are noticing amazing content in different languages and also encouraging others to see it. It is high time we start including global films in our watchlist as it will entertain us beyond words, and also will teach us something new.
