The most charitable celebrity George Harrison

It is hard to find someone who doesn’t follow celebrities on social media. Celebrities enjoy money, fame, and the following of many crazy and loyal fans. Naturally, celebrities are always on the hit list of criticism. Many celebrities live life as a vain person who cares only about themselves and not the people who love them to death.

Of course, it doesn’t mean every celebrity is selfish. You will come across many celebrities who give away much of their wealth in charity. One of such charitable celebrities is George Harrison. If you belong to this generation, you may not have heard about his name. But if you are into Rock N Roll, it’s impossible to ignore this person as he was an integral member of The Beatles: arguably the greatest rock band of all-time.

This blog will provide you with one of his charity works that changed modern music’s face. We may have heard of many celebrities stage benefit concerts to help a cause. Many of us don’t know that George Harrison was the first person who invented a benefit concert almost 50 years ago.

In 1971 East Pakistan (now known as Bangladesh) was facing atrocities by Pakistan. A friend of George Harrison, Ravi Shankar, asked George to help. It took a month for George to call all his Rockstar friends, and some of them turned up. Together they staged the very first benefit concert called The Concert For Bangladesh.

The world had never seen such an avant-garde event before. The Concert For Bangladesh was a massive hit that raised millions of funds. The album was met with universal acclaim and won the Grammy for Album of the Year. What makes this concert worth talking about is that this benefit concert later inspired other benefit concerts such as Live Aid, Live 8, and so on. If you look at it this way, there would have been no similar benefit concerts if there was no Concert for Bangladesh. These benefit concerts have raised millions and millions of funds to help several causes. This very fact makes George Harrison the most charitable celebrity.
